Spotify has expanded its audiobook portfolio after striking a deal with Bloomsbury, a global publishing house with offices in the US, UK, Australia and India. This will add over 1,000 new titles to its library, giving subscribers more listening options.
Spotify adds even more books and voices to listen to
As first reported on Bloomsbury’s official blog, this new addition comes shortly after Spotify introduced a number of new features for audiobooks to make listening more immersive and convenient.
Spotify announced the service in 2022, giving Premium users 15 hours of free audiobook listening each month. When you use up that time, you purchase a 10-hour top-up so you can start a new book (or finish the one you’ve started, if you haven’t yet).
The Spotify and Bloomsbury partnership also includes a new book by acclaimed authors Sarah J. Maas, Alan Moore and others.
These include fiction titles for children and adults, including the fantasy book Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, the award-winning Cuddy by Benjamin Myers, IPG Audiobook of the Year Ghosts and Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell, which won Children’s Book of the Year.
There are selections from non-fiction works, including Want, Submitted by Anonymous, Collected by Gillian Anderson and others by Peter Frankopan, Dan Jones and others.
In addition to these literary works, Spotify has also incorporated the voices of top-billed Hollywood talent, and now your favourite books will include narrations from Meryl Streep, Emilia Clarke, Adjoa Andoh and Jamie Lee Curtis.
“We’re passionate about bringing the creative talents of our authors and narrators to as many listeners as possible through our mission to inform, educate, entertain and inspire readers of all ages and backgrounds,” said Sam Halstead, director of audio at Bloomsbury.
“We’re confident that this partnership will help introduce a whole new generation of listeners to audiobooks in the years to come.”
You can also listen to Spotify audiobooks for free, although your options are limited to public-domain works.
Plus, both free and premium Spotify users can purchase individual audiobooks, allowing you to listen to the books you love without shelling out money for a monthly subscription.
