You Can Now Use Claude AI to Read Huge Google Docs

AI is a master at quickly summarizing large amounts of data. Feed it a ton of text, and it can tell you what it’s about in just a few seconds. If you’re a fan of cloud AI, you’ll be happy to know that you can now give it your Google Docs files and let it create a quick summary so you don’t have to read it all.

Cloud AI can now summarize Google Docs, with a catch

As announced on Anthropic’s X account (formerly Twitter), cloud AI can now integrate directly with Google Docs and read your files. The next time someone shares a dense document, you can hand it over to cloud AI and ask it to summarize its contents.

Getting started with this new integration is really easy. Hover over the paperclip icon in the bottom left, click the Google Drive logo that appears, then authenticate your Google account with the cloud.

Once you link your account, clicking the Google Drive logo will show your most recent Google Docs, as well as a search bar for finding a specific document. Send your chosen document, and Cloud will let you ask questions about its contents.

Before you get started, there are a few things to consider. First, it’s only available to Cloud Pro and Cloud for Work subscribers. Second, Cloud only reads the text in a Google Doc; it won’t summarize any images in the document.

Thus, it may be worth opening the document in another tab so you can reference any images the author added. Plus, it should be a handy way to quickly break up long documents.

If you’re not a paid member but you’re considering subscribing to unlock this feature, be sure to check out what Cloud Pro is and how it compares to ChatGPT Plus.
